Bears end season

The Bears magical 2022 season came to and end in their second round game at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament in Morgantown, WV. The Bears never really got on track against South Charleston Post 94, the hard-hitting state champs of West Virginia. Post 94 got on the board in the top of the second with four consecutive hits, capped by a two-RBI double by South Charleston catcher Tyler Perdue. Trailing 4-0, the Bears would get one back in the bottom of the third when Peyton Moyer reached on a one-out bunt single and advanced to second on an errant throw by the catcher. Cole Kratz followed with an infield single to move Moyer to third and set up Evan Hetrick's RBI single to score Moyer and put the Bears on the board. Things were looking up for the Bears but their hopes were quickly dashed by an inning-ending double play where the batter struck out and the lead runner was caught in no-mans-land between second and third in a run-down. The Bears again rallied in the bottom of the fifth when Peyton Moyer drew a one-out walk and Cole Kratz reached on a bunt single. After a successful double steal and a fly out, Steven Colucci repeated his clutch performance from game one, hitting a two-out single to score Moyer and Kratz and narrow the deficit to 4-3. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Bears would get, as South Charleston scored two in the top of the sixth and another two in the top of the seventh to seal the 8-3 victory and eliminate the Bears. Cole Kratz led Bears hitters in the game, going 2-3 with a walk.

The Bears season ended with the loss, the team having achieved a 24-11-1 overall record and runner-up finishes in the Berks League and PA State Tournament. We will publish a season recap a little later - check back for that and more!
