Tournament MVP Zack Tiracorda scattered 7 hits as the Phils won the 2022 PA State Championship with a 1-0 win over the Bears. Tiracorda walked only 1 while striking out 7, including three consecutive batters in the bottom of the second inning after the Bears put runners on second and third in the inning. The Phils managed only 3 hits off of Colin Eisenhard, but combined them to score the game’s lone run. Michael Kitko led off the top of the second inning with a double, then scored on singles by Colby Hahn and Tiracorda. The win was only the second for Region 7 since the current regional system was instituted in 1975, and the first since State College won the 2001 state title at Bear Stadium. Both teams advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. The Bears open the Tournament with a 9:30 AM game versus Maryland State Champion Frederick. Philipsburg plays host Morgantown (WV) at 6:30 PM in their opening game.
