Richard Black continued an amazing streak of pitching performances by the Bears with a 6-hitter as the Bears earned a spot in the State championship game with a 6-1 win over Region 4 champion Paxton. Black lost a shutout when Paxton catcher David Shroyer homered to left field in the second inning. One out later, back-to-back singles gave Paxton an opportunity to break the resulting 1-1 tie, but Black retired Paxton leadoff hitter Cory Kalinosky on a ground out, and in fact allowed only 2 baserunners during the rest of the game. Meanwhile, the Bears broke the tie with 2 runs in the third inning using only 1 hit while collecting three walks, a stolen base, and a hit-batsman. The win automatically clinches a berth in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament next week for the Bears.
