Today, June 19, Governor Wolf announced that both Berks and Montgomery Counties will transition to the Green Phase of reopening in one week, on Friday, June 26. Based on the PA COVID-19 Guidance for Sports, the Green phase allows us to resume team practices and games. We wanted to share our plans for the Summer 2020 season.
The Pennsylvania American Legion cancelled the 2020 Legion baseball season early in the pandemic. As a result, Berks County Legion baseball teams have gotten together and decided to form an independent baseball league for the 2020 Summer Season. The league will consist of many of the teams the Bears normally face but will not be under the Legion banner. Games begin after the July 4th holiday and continue until late July or early August.
The Bears are unable to use their usual home ballpark Bear Stadium, due to school district restrictions during the pandemic. This summer, the Bears will instead use Lee Mecherly field in Gabelsville as their home field. This field will be familiar to many Bears fans as the usual home of the Junior Legion Boyertown Bear Cubs.
