Want to play college ball?

The Bears and the BMBL have recognized that players who want to play collegiate baseball are seeking ways to get noticed by college scouts. In some cases, players have felt that the only way to accomplish this is to leave Boyertown and play for an external travel team. The Bears and BMBL are teaming up to offer two new programs to address this need, at a much lower cost than external travel teams.

One new program being offered by our organizations is a 17U College Showcase team, called the Blue Collars. As the name implies, this team is focused on putting in the work that is needed to prepare players for baseball at the next level. In 2020, this team will attend three college showcases, at Diamond Nation, the University of Delaware (D1), and a local BSE College Showcase. They will also play up in the local 18U Babe Ruth league, to gain experience playing against players who are bigger, stronger, and faster than them. The team will practice with the Senior Legion Bears, and Blue Collar players may be dual rostered on the Bears.

The Blue Collars will be run by a high-quality coaching staff, where every coach either has college coaching experience or was a college player. The coaching staff will be lead by Dave Raifsnider, current hitting coach at Penn State Berks.

Players on the Blue Collars are 16 or 17 years old on December 31 of the year they are on the team. Tryouts will be held for both Blue Collars and the Senior Legion Bears on these dates. To register to play on Blue Collars, players should register on the BMBL site. 16 and 17-year old players who tryout for the Senior Legion Bears and are cut from that team may be placed on the Blue Collars.

The second new program being offered to players interested in collegiate baseball is a player profile sheet that describes that player's abilities both on and off the baseball field, similar to services offered through Perfect Game or Prep Baseball Report. This program is called The Blue Collar Baseball Project. To be eligible to participate in the Blue Collar Baseball Project, the player must be in grades 9-12 and play for Boyertown in some baseball capacity, whether that is on one of the school teams, the Senior Legion Bears, one of the teams in the Boyertown Midget Baseball League, or one of the teams in the Pine Forge Athletic Association.

The cost to participate in the Blue Collar Baseball Project is $300 per year, unless the player is on the Bears Senior Legion team or the Blue Collars 17U Showcase team. Players making those teams receive a player profile at no charge. The registration form to participate in the Blue Collar Baseball Project can be found here.
